Jnes on Android returns

posted by Jabo Jnes
A year ago Jnes got suspended from the Google Play, and despite an appeal they were not willing to change this. The entire transition from having a well regarded app to nothing was jarring given countless hours spent coding. I tried to forget about this and focus on other things for a while.

Figuring out how to move forward from here was a tricky puzzle others have experienced. In my case, I didn't want to change the app or alienate anyone who funded development by purchasing it. However after a year of watching Jnes sit on the shelf, I decided to publish a free version with the all the base functionality you would expect from an emulator, there is an in-app purchase for extra features like Bluetooth Netplay. You can download the new beta release here

I felt this approach was the simplest compromise to make Jnes available again and let more people enjoy it. I'm hopeful changes I've made to the app, and Google improving it's developer support, will make this unlikely to happen again, but there are no guarantees. A special thanks to everyone who supported Jnes on the Android previously, this wouldn't have been possible with you. Whether you buy the extra features or not, I know you'll enjoy using this app to play games, please let me know.

This version is better than the old one? I bought the old one so I'm afraid to delete it and no longer find it.

This version is not better necessarily, however if there are any updates in the future they would be for this new package.

Are the save states and save files interchangeable from mobile to windows?

Are you working on the Android port for any new update?

Cover art won't automatically download in this new version. Am I doing something wrong? PS I bought the original and donated on this new version.

I'm new to this... 1491583618000 #7

There are no plans at this time.

Thanks for supporting the app. Android development is time consuming and tedious! Cover artwork was removed in this version due to it being free now and google previously removing the app for unknown reasons. It's possible it might come back in the future for users who upgrade to the extra features, so stay tuned sorry I can't be more definitive.

You should have seen a message about going to the settings page, there is a setting that tells Jnes where your games are. It tries to auto discover this path but often fails, if you would kindly tell me where this path ended up being I can try to improve this in the future.

I did the in app purchase to get the controller options. Purchase went thru fine but the new features only work online. Offline I get a purchase verification error. Any way around this?

Are there any error messages or are the features just disabled when not connected? I think this is something I will have to fix with an update, appreciate you helping beta test.

What was the solution to get it back on the store after them not listening to your appeals?

There was no solution to get things back the way they were, the only next step offered was publishing the app again with a new name after resolving problems they identified, which isn't ideal for the reasons mentioned already in the article.

When you publish apps as a hobby you don't really have a lot of influence over what happens in app stores, you may not agree with a lot of things. This was a bit of a new experience for me which I don't think I would do again.

The Support lock-thing on Project64 is why I will never support you.
Take your heeb bullshit and starve in the gutter.

I don't work on Project64, I left the team over 10 years ago and let go. I had nothing to do with what you are talking about; it's not consistent with my values.

It's just an emulator project, it's not worth holding onto anger.

Wrong Place and emulator. The Project you are referring to is Project64 2.x and up, this is Jnes, a Nes emulator.

Question how to fix graphic issues on jabo in emulators

OscarAV 1696435167000 #17

Hello,

I have noticed that the screen controls on some emulators change depending on the android phone. But Jnes shows the same controls layout on the screen on a Huawei U8650 with Android 2.3.3 and on a Ulefone Armor X8 with Android 10. And I am curious about that. Why is so? It seems that you made the app on a robust way on screen controls. Also, you made no use of the navigation bar, so that's not a problem with modern smartphones.

Thank you very much for your attention, and for your work. I appreciate It, since I can use my old smartphone to play nes games.

Regards, cheers.

Oscar
